11-Year-Old Kentucky Boy Hailed as Hero After Saving Man From Drowning: ‘I Put on My Goggles…and Grabbed Him Up’

Lexington, Kentucky – Quick thinking and bravery turned an ordinary afternoon at an apartment complex pool into a life-saving moment, thanks to 11-year-old Avory Woolery. The young boy is being celebrated as a hero after he jumped into the water and pulled an unconscious man to safety.
According to reports, Avory was at the pool when he noticed a man in distress underwater. While others around the pool hesitated, Avory sprang into action.
“I put on my goggles. I went underwater. I grabbed him up,” Avory told local news outlets. “There was no way that I was going to let another man die today. He’s a human being. He should be treated as such.”
Avory’s father, Sean Woolery, was nearby and witnessed the dramatic rescue. “I’m proud of him,” he said, adding that someone even thanked him for teaching his son how to swim.
The man, who had been unresponsive at the bottom of the pool, was pulled out with Avory’s help. Bystanders immediately began performing CPR on him until emergency responders arrived. Lexington Fire Department personnel treated the man at the scene before transporting him to a hospital in serious condition.
