Chiclayo (Peru)

For many people in Chiclayo, Robert Prevost’s election as pope is not only historic — it is emotional.

Local media including Diario Correo Peru and Ojo Peru revisited photographs from his years serving the city as bishop.

The images show a religious leader deeply involved with everyday life in the community. Whether attending public celebrations or comforting families during difficult times, he built a strong connection with local residents.

That is why many Peruvians now proudly call him “Monseñor Roberto de Chiclayo.” Even after ascending to the highest position in the Catholic Church, people in Chiclayo still see him as the humble bishop who once stood among them.
