Pope Leo XIV Celebrates Holy Mass with Priestly Ordinations at St. Peter’s Basilica

A deep spirit of reverence and joy filled St. Peter’s Basilica as Pope Leo XIV celebrated the Holy Mass with Priestly Ordinations before thousands of faithful pilgrims, clergy, religious communities, families, and visitors from around the world.

The sacred liturgy marked a life-changing moment for the ordinands, who were called to begin their priestly ministry in service to God, the Church, and the people of God. Surrounded by prayer and solemn music, they offered their lives for a mission rooted in faith, humility, sacrifice, and pastoral love.

One of the most moving moments of the celebration came through the laying on of hands and the prayer of ordination, ancient signs of the Church’s apostolic tradition. Through this sacred rite, the new priests entered a lifelong vocation of proclaiming the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments, guiding the faithful, and walking closely with those in need of comfort, forgiveness, and hope.

In his homily, Pope Leo XIV encouraged the newly ordained priests to remain close to the people they are called to serve. He reminded them that priesthood is not a position of distance, but a mission of presence — to listen, to accompany, to console, and to bring God’s mercy into the wounds of the world.

The Holy Father also urged them to become witnesses of hope in today’s challenging times, especially for the poor, the lonely, the sick, the forgotten, and those searching for meaning. He emphasized that a true priest must carry the heart of Christ, serving with tenderness, courage, and humility.

For the families and faithful gathered inside the basilica, the ceremony was a powerful moment of gratitude and renewal. It beautifully reflected the unity, tradition, and spiritual richness of the Catholic faith, reminding all present that the Church continues to live through service, prayer, and the generous response of those who answer God’s call.
