Chilling Details Emerge as 17-Year-Old Boy with Autism Charged in Killing of 4-Month-Old Baby Girl at Claremont Daycare

Claremont, California – Parents in the affluent college town of Claremont are demanding answers and accountability after a 17-year-old boy with autism was charged with murder in the death of a 4-month-old infant girl who was allegedly thrown to the floor inside a home-based daycare.
The tragic incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on June 29, 2026, at a residence in the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive. Claremont police responded to a medical emergency call and found the infant, later identified as Troy May Elaine Cohn of Pomona, with severe injuries. Authorities determined that a juvenile at the home had thrown the baby to the floor.
Paramedics rushed the infant to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, and she was later transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), where she succumbed to her injuries. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office formally charged the 17-year-old suspect with murder. He was taken into custody at the scene and is being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.
The victim’s parents, Jasmyne Cohn and Anthony Owens, have spoken out publicly, expressing devastation and fury. They believe daycare staff left their daughter unsupervised with the teenage boy. The parents are questioning how a 17-year-old was present and left alone with infants and young children at a facility intended for kids 8 years old and younger.

“It is unclear why the teen, who has autism, was at the facility,” authorities noted. The case has raised significant concerns about oversight, safety protocols, and supervision at the unlicensed or home-based daycare operation.
Claremont, home to prestigious institutions like the Claremont Colleges, is known as a safe, family-oriented community. Residents and parents are now calling for stricter regulations on in-home childcare and greater transparency from authorities regarding the investigation.
The suspect’s name has not been released due to his juvenile status. He was arraigned on Thursday, and the case continues to unfold as investigators examine the full circumstances, including the role of daycare providers.
A GoFundMe has been established to support Troy’s family during this unimaginable loss. Community members have expressed heartbreak over the incident, with many emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable infants in care settings.
This heartbreaking case highlights ongoing challenges in childcare safety and the complexities surrounding juveniles with disabilities involved in serious incidents. Claremont police and prosecutors have not released additional details pending further court proceedings.
