Savannah Guthrie Reflects on ‘5 Months of Agony’ Since Mom Nancy’s Terrifying Kidnapping

Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has opened up about the ongoing nightmare her family has endured since her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her Arizona home five months ago.
In an emotional segment on the Today show, Guthrie fought back tears as she addressed the latest developments in the case, including ransom notes—one of which falsely claimed her mother had died.
“We are in agony,” Guthrie said. “I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home. This is the life we live every day.”
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, 2026, after being dropped off at her home in Catalina Foothills, near Tucson. Evidence at the scene, including a disabled doorbell camera and the sudden stop of her pacemaker signal, pointed to an abduction. She has not been found.
The family received multiple ransom notes, some demanding cryptocurrency payments. One note claimed Nancy had died, but authorities later determined at least one was a fake extortion attempt from a California man who has since pleaded guilty to harassment.
Despite the pain, Guthrie and her family continue to plead for information and hold onto hope. “We cannot be at peace,” she added, urging the public to remain vigilant.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI are treating the case as a kidnapping for ransom, with daily efforts ongoing. The family has expressed gratitude for the support while asking for privacy as they navigate this ordeal.
